December 3 North and Clybourn

Last Saturday we were almost overwhelmed by the crowds of holiday shoppers at State and Washington. You can see photos of us in action by clicking on the PAPC Photo Albums link to the side of the page, and you can read what I wrote about the morning on my blog, Pure Gum Spirits. It was a wonderful morning and there were some excellent paintings done.

This weekend we will meet at another busy city location: North and Clybourn. We'll meet at 8:30 at the North and Clybourn CTA station. Nancy Albrecht has a studio nearby and has offered to let us use their space for a critique, warming up, etc. Nancy and her studio mates are having an open house that afternoon, so you can stop by there to check it out or go to the Art Store to reload if you are out of ammo.

I can't be there--going out of town--but I will be back with you all on Dec. 10. Stuart

Update Your Links, Please

Because the PAPC blog site recently changed from the old blog hosting service to this new one, everyone whose website links here should update the PAPC address in the link. Some of you I notice are linked by this site without a corresponding link back. If you have not already, please do the courteous thing and provide the link to the PAPC site from yours. Thanks. Stuart

Painting the Still Life

While I know we are a group dedicated to painting the landscape under the open air, still there is a lot to be learned from painting the still life: color handling, light temperature, brush applications, edges, etc. I for one have not done enough of this and would like to get into it more. Marci O has inspired me--she has written about painting the still life on her blog; it's worth reading.

November 26 State and Washington

This Saturday we will meet at State and Washington in the Loop. It's the beginning of the holiday season and there should be a lot of people out and about. We'll meet there at the corner at 8:30. There is a coffee shop called Lavazza on Washington between Dearborn and State that is open from 9 to 5 (I called to make sure) where we can meet afterwards to warm up, get a bite to eat, and look at each other's paintings.

The Vanderpoel Art Association

On Pure Gum Spirits, I've posted a short article about a place that I think all of you would be interested in--the John Vanderpoel Art Association gallery. The gallery has an outstanding collection of American art. Take a look. I hope soon to get the group down to Beverly to paint in the neighborhood and then take a group tour of the collection.

November 19 Wacker and Michigan

The First Annual Show of the PAPC - SW was a howling success at the Tavern Club last Friday evening. There was a good turnout and great artwork--the event could not have been better.

This Saturday's we will be meeting at 333 North Michigan Avenue building at 8:30 AM--the Tavern Club building--and will paint until 12:30 PM when we can reconvene at 333. We can then send any interested passers-by up to the Tavern Club to see the show and the magnificent view -- and to warm themselves with complimentary coffee and crumpets between 11:00 AM and 1:00 PM.

I won't be able to be there because I am going out of town, but will be back for the Saturday after the holiday. If I don't see you before then, have a happy Thanksgiving! Stuart

New PAPC Blog--Welcome!

Welcome to the new Plein Air Painters of Chicago blog. We have just transferred here from the old blog due to exceedingly lame service by the old blog hosting company. Hopefully we won't have the same problems here.

It may take me a while to recreate the links from the old blog here, but they will be up shortly. In the meanwhile, if you have a link to a website that you would like us to post, please email it to me at stuartpainter "at" yahoo.com or post it in a comment here. As before, etiquette would seem to require a reciprocal link on your site.
