March 1 Lakeview

Saturday's outing will be to the Lakeview area, meeting at Uncommon Ground, a great coffee shop at 3800 N. Clark. It is supposed to be relatively nice on Saturday, but the coffee shop will provide good shelter if the hands get cold.

February 26 Special: Art Institute UPDATE: POSTPONED/CANCELLED

UPDATE: Unfortunately, Chicago Tonight has had to cancel on filming us for February 26. No new date has been set, but we are told that the show is still very interested in doing a story. Stay tuned for more details.

We are having a special outing on February 26, also at the Art Institute, so that Channel 11 can shoot our group for a piece they are doing on the PAPC. Right now the plan is for the crew to shoot us when we are setting up to paint around 12:30 and then mostly after about 1:30. We'll meet at the front steps of the Art Institute around 12:15 and go from there.

This is an awesome opportunity for publicity in advance of our Fourth Annual Show that opens on April 4. Beck Anstee has been the moving force behind this--she deserves a huge round of thanks for coming up with the idea and following through with it. Let's have a good turn out for Channel 11 and show them how plein air is done the Chicago way.

This is about as much detail as I currently have. Stay tuned for more.

February 23 Art Institute

The Art Institute currently has two amazing shows on display: Edward Hopper and Winslow Homer. This Saturday you can kill two birds with one stone: paint in the morning and see the exhibitions afterwards. Let's meet at the Art Institute steps on Saturday at 8:30.

Mapquest directions are here.

Fourth Annual PAPC Show: April 4 to April 13

The PAPC's Fourth Annual Show will be held at the Palette and Chisel, 1012 N. Dearborn Street, Chicago, from April 4 through April 13, 2008. The opening reception will be on Friday, April 4. More details will follow.

Come on out and get some paintings with us, meeting every Saturday throughout the year, rain or shine. Paintings in the show will have been done with the Saturday morning group on one of our outings. In the past we have also hung pieces that were scaled up in the studio from smaller field studies that were done with the PAPC; this is under consideration again for this year.

So get out now while the getting is good--there aren't that many Saturdays between now and April 4.

February 16 Spring Valley Nature Center, Schaumburg

Spring Valley Nature Center is in Schaumburg, part of the Schaumburg Park District. There is a nature preserve and a "heritage farm" on the same property--Volkening Farm. The farm buildings will be closed on Saturday but the Nature Center opens at 9 a.m. We'll meet at the Nature Center (where there will be warmth) and fan out from there. The map above shows the layout of the area, although it's oriented with north toward the bottom of the page for some reason.

Let's hope for great snow scenes.

For directions, go here and scroll to bottom of the page. There is a link for directions. Mapquest directions are here.

February 9 Union Station

This Saturday, meet in the great hall of Union Station. The great hall is on the west side of Canal Street, in the old part of the station, which lies between Adams and Jackson. Because this is the first time we've gone to Union Station, let's make sure to clean up after ourselves and be respectful of the station management's needs. I don't expect any problems with our group, but just be careful.

Directions are here.

TIME

8:30 a.m.

Great Hall shown above.

Stay Tuned: Working On Approval For Union Station

Please come back later today to see where we are going on Saturday. I have several calls in to the management office for Union Station to make sure we can paint and sketch there without hassles this weekend. Sorry for the late posting, but I don't want to designate Union Station as the place only to have us be told to leave.

Cross your fingers!
