June 30 Superior and Franklin

Nancy Albrecht suggested this location, and it sounds like a goood one: "alleys with fab. wires and poles, the under-El construction, street views looking south towards Sears with El on your right or left; the gallery dist. streets with banners. . . "

Meet at Brett's, at Superior and Franklin.

Time: 8:30

July 27 The Plein Air Summer Show

The summer show I mentioned a few days ago will open on Friday July 27 and run until August 7. Any pieces for the show have to be Chicagoland scenes for $500 or less. There will be a $25 hanging fee. Right now we are thinking there will be a maximum of three pieces per artist.

Stay tuned for more details. Email me if you are interested: stuartpainter at yahoo dot com.

June 23 10:00 a.m. North Park Village Nature Center

This Saturday let's go green. The North Park Village Nature Center is a city park on the northwest side of Chicago: here is the home page for the park.

I'm looking forward to seeing this place; to my memory we've never been there. It doesn't open until 10:00 a.m.--but that will give us extra time for our coffee.

Place: North Park Village Nature Center, 5801 N. Pulaski
Time: 10:00 a.m.

Directions: Go to mapquest.

End of July: Summer Plein Air Show

Let me know if you are interested in participating in a summer plein air show to happen at the end of July. I will have more details shortly, but we are likely going to sponsor a plein air show in about a month. This show will not be restricted to paintings done with the group and will be open to all members of the P&C. (If you are not a P&C member, now would be a good time to join.)

Once I have an idea of how many people want to participate, I can give you more of an idea about the number of paintings, etc. For now, I'd plan for about three paintings each--maybe more, depending.

This will not be a substitute for our spring show. This is in addition to that one, which will be restricted, as before, to paintings done with the group.

Please email as soon as possible: stuartpainter at yahoo dot com. I will post more details as I learn them.

June 15 to 24 Cedarburg Plein Air Contest

Next week there is a great event going on up in Cedarburg, Wisconsin. If you've never gone, it's worth checking out and if you've gone before, you know how it is.

Cedarburg is a pretty little town just north of Milwaukee and they have a plein air festival every year at this time.

Go here for the details of the contest.

June 16 Montrose Harbor

This Saturday there should be plenty of people and activity at Montrose Harbor. The parking spaces will fill up quickly but you should be all right if you get there early. Montrose is one of our favorite spots, with good reason.

Mapquest should give you the lay of the land. Our traditional meeting place has been at the bait shop, where Montrose curves around to the north and the side road goes to the south around the harbor. Go here for directions.

June 9 Lincoln Park Farmers' Market

There is a farmers' market at the Lincoln Park High School, at Armitage and Orchard, on Saturday morning. It should be a good spot to paint with lots of activity and people. Stephanie and Errol suggested this one.

Here is the link to the farmers' market.

Here is the mapquest link as well.

This is a 1902 photo of some high school football team members from Waller High School practicing on the field located at Armitage and Orchard. I think the neighborhood is quite different now.
